Dear Supporters, Partners and Friends,

 

As we begin to experience the telltale signs of autumn, the crispness in the morning air and the brilliance of the changing colors of the leaves, it is a reminder that for everything there is a season.

 

At the Global Health Foundation, we are also entering a new season.

 

We have made a bold and purposeful decision, supported by our Executive Director, to direct 90% of our operational reserve to our grant-making program to make strategic investments in partners to accelerate their impact. While the mission we set out to achieve is far from done, we believe that the women’s health landscape we are operating in, at home and abroad, necessitates these immediate investments.

 

Since 2014, we have had the great honor of working with dynamic, innovative and solutions-oriented partners and incredibly generous donors. Together, we have achieved tremendous success in tearing down barriers for women and their families to access healthcare services including:

​

• Solving energy-scarcity in 248 rural Tanzanian clinics which are now quipped with reliable, solar power so no mother has to give birth in the dark (We Care Solar),

• Designing the first woman-centered website in the United States to address postpartum care (4th Trimester Project),

• Building on Colorado’s success (54% drop in the teen birth rate and 64% decrease in teen abortions) by equipping clinics with the most effective birth control methods (Coloradans for Birth Control).

 

On November 1, we will move to a volunteer managed organization led by our Board of Directors and with leadership provided by our co-founder, Amy Livingston, who will resign from her position as Executive Director and assume the role of President of the Board of Directors. Over the next year, our focus will be disbursing the investments, working with our partners and monitoring the landscape for future operations. While we will no longer conduct active fundraising campaigns, we will continue to accept contributions on behalf of We Care Solar and the 4th Trimester Project.

 

We would like to sincerely thank you for joining us in building partnerships and investing more than $1.1M to support women and their families receiving quality, comprehensive and compassionate maternal and newborn healthcare in Tanzania, Uganda, Sierra Leone and Liberia and family planning healthcare in Colorado.
